How often to post on Instagram when you're running a small business
A realistic posting rhythm for a business where social media is one job out of twenty, not a full-time role.
The most common question I hear is not about the algorithm. It is simply: how often do I need to post for it to make a difference? The answer is less about a fixed number and more about a rhythm you can sustain all year.
Three times a week is enough, if the content has a purpose
For a small business, three posts a week is a solid baseline: one that shows your work, one that answers a common customer question, and one that shows the person behind the brand. All three can be prepared in one afternoon.
Posting daily only makes sense if you have a stockpile of material. Without it, you run dry by week three and the profile looks abandoned — worse than posting twice a week consistently.
Reels once a week, not every day
Video can extend your reach, but it is also the most time-consuming format. One video a week is sustainable when it is captured during your normal work rather than staged separately. Set aside half a day each month and film four at once.
What to measure instead of likes
For a business, what matters is how many people opened your profile, clicked your link, and sent a message. If those numbers grow, your rhythm is working — even with fewer posts than your competitors.
If you can't keep the rhythm yourself, I can take it over. We look at what you already have and set a plan that doesn't need your daily attention.
