What makes a good website for a small business
Five things that separate a website that brings in enquiries from one that's just a pretty online business card.
A good website isn't the one with the most animations. It's the one where a visitor understands in fifteen seconds what you do, who it's for, and what to do next.
1. The homepage says what you sell
The most common mistake is a headline about the brand instead of the service. "Building the future together" says nothing. "Custom carpentry in Dolenjska" says everything. Your headline should name the service and the place.
2. Contact is reachable from every page
Phone number, email and a short form should be visible without hunting. Every extra click before someone can reach you costs you enquiries.
3. Speed before effects
More than half your visitors arrive on a phone. If the page takes longer than three seconds to load, a lot of people leave before they see anything. Large, unoptimised photos are the usual culprit.
4. Proof instead of promises
Photos of your work, real customer names, short reviews, numbers. One real reference convinces more than ten paragraphs about how dedicated you are.
5. A structure Google can understand
Each service deserves its own page with its own title and description. One page listing ten services won't rank well for any of them.
If your site is missing any of these five points, I'll take a look and tell you what's worth fixing and what's worth rebuilding.
